Fabulously Refurb...

A few months back I obtained a free antique telephone table. It didn't look like much at the time, however I knew with a little TLC this baby could shine.

Prior to starting the fab refurb I had to decide on what I wanted the table to look like in the end. Since this piece was in it's original state, I decided it best to sand the table and stain it as opposed to painting it. In keeping with the furniture we already own, I decided on a dark cherry stain. After choosing a stain I went on the hunt for fabric and decided on a beautiful black & off white twall. Once I had all my supplies it was time to get to business.

The first step was sanding down the table. I chose to do this by hand as the wood was very delicate. All in all it took about an hour to sand down the table.

The next step was staining the table. I used a stain that had a bit of a shine to really make this table stand out. It didn't take long at all to stain the table, however it did table a few days for the table to dry. When it was done drying I began to get really excited!

Last step was the cushion. When I peeled the ugly orange fabric back I realized the original seat cover had never been removed. Unfortunately the fabric and cushioning were so worn that both needed to be replaced. I carefully pulled out all the nails, removing the seat cushion & fabric, but still keep the integrity of the chair in tack.

I purchased a fairly thick cushion so the seat would last. Using a pen I mad an outline of the seat on the cushion and then made my cuts with a long exacto knife. Once the pieces were all cut I was able to tack my fabric back on to the chair base.  Once the cushion was complete I attached it to the table and the project was done.

I am loving this little table and for about $10 I was able to completely refurb this piece. So now it's your turn, get out there and find a Fab Refurb!

Happy Doodling!
